It all began in the mid seventies when I first rode a 500cc Goldie around the garden at home before progressing to scramble racing on a 440cc Victor. During this time, I was regularly visiting a local motorcycle shop in Newent (Selwyn Perry) for bike parts. After leaving school, I went to work for Selwyn Perry building Ansell frames for Grasstrack racing. Riders such as Julian Wigg, Rod Lidgate, Robin Davies, and Barry Meaks all achieved great success using our Ansell products and so I moved from scrambling to grasstrack soon after. Whilst using an Ansell 250cc and BSA 350cc as a beginner, I won my first final at Leamington Spa, and from this moment on, I was hooked !!

As the business progressed, I designed and manufactured the first R.T.S frame in 1979 for eldest my son Mark, who had began racing in the youth category. Neil, my youngest son soon followed the family Grasstrack tradition and both boys have enjoyed many years of success since. During the late seventies was when I began engine rebuilding and built an engine for Clayton Willams, who then became British Youth Champion. We’d sponsored Clayton throughout his career who also became the British 350cc Champion, amongst his other major successes. I also recall meeting Trevor Banks at a schoolboy practice meeting many years ago and he was very keen to try out one of the boys bikes. He was so impressed, we had agreed a sponsorship deal over the next 20 years, which resulted in him winning Grasstrack and Long Track events, worldwide.

Both Mark and Neil have since taken active roles within the business and we have supported many riders including, Andy Riley, Chris (Bomber) Harris, Tim Nobes, Joe Screen, Glyn Stanton, Wayne Broadhurst and not forgetting the fantastic late Paul Fry. We currently support riders across both youth and adult classes such as James Shanes, who’s won multiple British and European titles. Mark’s son, Cameron also won the 2018 British Youth Junior Title. Today, both Mark and myself continue to develop the business with the team and have an increasing number of frames and engines currently on track.
